FAQs

Braun Series 5 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

What's the difference between the different Series 5 models?
The 5090cc model comes with high quality metal surfaces and has the most advanced display among Braun Series 5 shavers: a very precise 5 level battery status indicator with low charge warning as well as a travel lock and hygiene indicator. On top, the 5090cc features the advanced Intelligent Clean&Charge Station from Braun: it cleans, charges, lubricates and selects cleaning program at the touch of a button - so your shaver feels like new every day. For more information about the rest of the Series 5 range, please consult the Series 5 Model overview.

Why would I need a Clean&Charge Station when I can clean my Series 5 shaver under tap water?
Our tests show that cleaning your shaver with a Clean&Charge Station is significantly more hygienic than cleaning it under the tap. It's also more convenient: at the touch of a button your shaver is cleaned, charged and lubricated automatically.

I already have a Cleaning Center from my previous Braun shaver (Syncro, Activator, 360, etc.). Can I use it with the new Series 5 shaver?
No, the Series 5 marks the introduction of a new generation of shavers with fully revamped technology and can’t be used with previous Cleaning Centers.

Can I buy a solo shaver and upgrade with a Clean&Charge Station later?
No, shaver and Clean&Charge Station are designed to interlink during the cleaning procedure. Shavers being sold without the Clean&Charge Station, don’t have the technology to connect accordingly.

How often do I need to exchange the Clean&Charge refill cartridge?
If you clean your shaver with the Clean&Charge Station twice a week, you will only need to replace the refill cartridge every 2 to 3 months to experience a shaver like new, every day. The Save & Subscribe option from Amazon allows you to subscribe for a regular home delivery and at the same time save 10% on the price of the Clean&Charge refill. You don't have to think about it and always have a Clean&Charge refill available when you need it.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. After a few days without shaving, for example over a weekend, you should trim your stubble before you shave. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at right angles (90°) to your skin. In difficult to shave areas like under the nose you can also use the MultiHeadLock switch to lock the shaver head and manually set one of five available shaver head angles as it suits best to your needs. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 5 features an integrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, the Series 5 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting batteries available for Braun shavers.

From reluctant shaver to frequent clipper!

I have never been keen on shaving in general and even less so in using an electric shaver. But now, having had the opportunity to try the Braun Series 5 shaver I am a changed man! My first use of this was with a full two week's worth of growth so I considered this to be a good test of the shaver. Despite one or two pulls and pinches the shaver gave me a pain free shave with a finish akin to that of a wet shave but without ANY of the irritation. I then used the product again the next day to keep my face feeling clean-shaven and I've found myself doing the same again virtually every day since. The self-cleaning and charging station is a welcome feature of the shaver and is small enough to be able to fit nicely on my bathroom window ledge. The effects of the auto-clean are obvious and it smells and feels like brand new on next use. The head of the shaver can be set to a variety of angles and while this is good, for a high quality product, the head does seem to be too easy to move while still locked. That however is the only criticism I would have of the product because the build quality is excellent with a sturdy feel to it without ever feeling too bulky or heavy. I also like the additional trimmer that can be used to tidy up sideburns etc - it's so well built into the device that I actually didn't even notice it was there for the first few shaves! Overall, a great product and one that has definitely made me change my stance on electric shavers and shaving in general as it has turned from a chore to a pleasure!

All in one.

This shaver is the Business! Even my wife appreciated the smoothness of my skin after using it when she felt my chin and kissed me. I've used it several time and it still smells clean and feels brand new to use. It takes just a few seconds to unclip the head, tap out the trimmings, reattach it then stick the shaver in the self-cleaning station and that's all you have to do to kept this shaver in prime condition! Apart from changing the cleaning fluid every few weeks, even after a weeks' use, (3 shaves) the fluid still looks clean and I expect to get a good few more weeks out of it. The actual shaving performance is second to none, It shaves my skin smooth for two days before I can actually feel the bristles coming through again, it does work well around the curves & contours on your chin & neck thanks to it's pivoting head.

BRAUN SERIES 5 5070CC SHAVER

I was really pleased to be offered the chance to try out this shaver. I usually wet shave a couple of times a week and use a rotary electric shaver if i'm in a bit of a hurry. Once accepted on the campaign, I let my facial hair grow a little longer than normal in anticipation of the new razor arriving. I didn't have to wait too long as the Bzzkit turned up a couple of days later. On opening it up, I was pleased to see everything well packaged and a set of instructions that even I could get my head around! Having unpacked everything, I plugged in the razor to give it its first charge - I was pleasantly surprised how quickly it charged up - much quicker than my old one. Once charged, I had a go of it; due to the longer than normal growth, I used the long hair trimmer to try and make things easier. unfortunately this is where I hit a snag. The trimmer on the Braun is smaller than my old one and therefore trimming 'all over' takes a fair bit longer, the trimmer itself is also at a bit of an awkward angle! After i'd trimmed everything back I gave the main cutter a try, this seemed pretty effective, although did take quite a few repeated strokes to get a clean finish all over - this leading to slight tenderness once finished. I also noticed that the foils get quite hot, very quickly - I am not sure whether this adds to my face feeling a little tender post-shave? All in all, this is a nice shaver, which provides adequate results though does seem to miss the odd hair here and there. I have shaved with it twice so far and am looking forward to seeing whether the results and performance improves as my face gets more used to it. I have not yet tried the cleaning caddy, but will give it a test after my next shave.

Braun 5 series

Quite impressed with this razor, I previously used a rotary and was a bit sceptical about a foil razor but it was good and easier to use than my old rotary razor! It holds its charge really well too, I've only charged it once in 4 weeks!! Thoroughly recomend it!

A mixed bag

I found that the razor gave a decent shave, but the time it took to get close was not as effective a s a wet shave. I would def use on holiday as it is easy to transport and the clean system leaves me with good faith that it is hygienic. The price of the razor from new may make me think twice, but i am overall pleased with the razor.

The 5 series evolved!

I often wonder why when i buy a mens shaving product does it not seem long before a 'newer version' comes out. I ask myself - Have i made a wise decision? Did I 'really do my homework and buy the best I could? Well here it is the newer more user friendly Series 5 5070! Compared to my previous series 5 I initially notice a different sound from the motor, not as loud or whirly as my previous one but a more smoother sound which if you can relate to it doesn't sound to harsh. But will it work I ask myself. Quick answer yes it does. Initially it feels much lighter on the skin and not having to push on as much to obtain a smoother shave. Those hairs on my neck that seem to grow the other way to the rest - not a problem it does those too. Something I found so annoying with my previous series 5. Having to hold it at different angles to get a cut on those hairs was such a pain. Thankfully Braun have got round that problem and all the same direction and I get the shave i want. The shave i desire to look professional in my appearance. They have kept the cleaning system which I really did like although the base is a little smaller which is just perfect for the shelf I have in the bathroom for my shaver. The previous series 5 overhung the shelf a little, so i was always worried it would just get knocked off. So piece of mind there. The whole clean and charge system front display is a different it seems more led lights and a somewhat simpler one touch and it charges and cleans. In all Braun has always been a brand to trust for quality and now those little personal niggles I have with the old series 5 have now been ironed out. Would I recommend - well yes and My can look forward top a caribbean journey with me next month. Well done braun.

Not what I expected

I have to start my review by stating I've never used an electric shaver before and though I had heard good things from people, I always preferred a manual razor for what I feel is a closer shave. When I got the box for this shaver, it played to the man geek in me, all black, made to look like the latest tech product, not a shaver. Of course I went through it all unlike a geek to make sure I had everything and nothing was missing. So I set it up and awaited for it to be fully charged and then I could use. It wasn't the experience I had in mind. I find shaving against the grain as such very odd and I've found that even doing that, I have issues where it just doesn't seem to shave close enough, despite manipulating the skin as suggested and holding it at 90 degree angle. One of the additional reason I was interested, is that using an electric shaver is good for those with very sensitive skin. I have to say on this, it seems to be better, but not enough to make me feel that I would change over permanently. All in all, I have to say I'm left disappointed. It takes longer to use the shaver to shave than with my manual razor, maybe I just haven't figured out the best way to use it yet. This puts me off for wanting to keep using it. Unsure of the cost of the replacement fluid to keep it clean. Too many negatives for me to say I was ecstatic with it

It was a close shave but I liked It!

When I started using the shaver I was apprehensive as I tend to use a wet blade. The blade is a closer feel but the Braun series 5 did come very close. My concern was the irritation I was told about using an electric shaver. Thankfully this did not happen with me and left my neck and cheeks smooth with very little redness. The main selling point appears to be the self cleansing unit. The Look is nice but does take up room on my shelf so if you have the space then its perfect. Would I replace the liquid over time? only time will tell but at the moment its nice that I dont need to wash the shave as it saves me some time. I think this is designed for people on the go or late for work! The charge time is difficult to ascertain as I keep placing the shave back which charges it but the power is always strong and I'm sure the battery will be the same all other leading brands. shame I could really test this but I'm other reviews will cover this. The feel of the shave is good but I would have preferred the start button somewhere else as I switched off a couple of times. I'm sure over time I wont but if it was further up or away from my thumb then it would have made the feel of it better for me. The head was also nice and felt like it worked with my face and cheek bones. overall I've been quite happy with the shaver and this week grabbed it by default rather than the wet blade so its working for me. Regards

Almost as close as a wet shave..but not quite.

For around 15years now I've always used a wet shave as i've never been a fan electric shavers as they always left a rash on my face and didnt really do a great job of shaving. When the Braun Series 5 shaver arrived I was intrigued to see if the shaver still brought me out in a rash like all of my previous electric shavers did (even the ones with a gel pack inside them). After first use I was quite shocked...No Rash! The shaver also gave me a shave nearly as good as a wet shave, I still think a wet shave has the edge over any electric shaver. One of the many great features about the series 5 is that it fully recharges in 1 hour. Having the option of using the charge station which also cleans the shaver is also an added bonus, no more tapping out the whiskers on the sink!. As soon as the short cleaning process has finished the shaver feels like new again. Braun have done an excellent job of incorporating some neat features inc. being able to use the shaver in the shower due to it being waterproof. Although I wasnt a big fan of electric shavers before using the Braun I've been partially converted and will continue to use it for the majority of the time and would happily recommend it to friends and family. My only concern would be the price as it is at the top end of the electric shavers.

Braun 5 series get 5 stars

I have been using my Philips electric shaver for something like 6 years now and to be honest, its had it. It just about does the job, but I was only thinking about getting a new shaver this year. Bzzagent then comes to the rescue. I did not really know what I was going to receive, other than a Braun shaver, that from the picture, looked like a decent bit of kit. Upon arrival, I found it rather daunting with the amount of things in the box. I mean, I just wanted a shaver! Looking through the manual, I was became aware of the dock (like your ipod dock) that cleans your shaver with a liquid (this takes 3 minutes). It really does mean that when you next shave, you get a fresh feeling. The shaver has a little blue droplet that lights up telling you when it next needs a clean. Battery life is always a very important aspect of a shaver. Well you will get approximately 45 minutes of use before you need to charge it. If your still shaving at that point, then something is wrong! Plenty of power. It has a built in clipper which will help with your side burns and help you looking neat and trim across your face. So how about the shaving experience? Its taken me abit of getting use to. My previous shaver had three round heads that flexed in all different directions. This has one rectangular head with abit less flexibility. However, I have to say that it does the job. It cut closely and gets into all the difficult areas of the face. Overall I am satisfied with the performance of the cut. A nice little accessory bag for the shaver, its handy when taking it on holiday. Overall then we have one of the latest shavers on the market, which self cleans and that is what sells this product. It really is a nice feeling to have a fresh electric shave each day. I have every confidence that the product is sturdy, will survive any knocks and will last for years.
