FAQs

Braun Series 5 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

What's the difference between the different Series 5 models?
The 5090cc model comes with high quality metal surfaces and has the most advanced display among Braun Series 5 shavers: a very precise 5 level battery status indicator with low charge warning as well as a travel lock and hygiene indicator. On top, the 5090cc features the advanced Intelligent Clean&Charge Station from Braun: it cleans, charges, lubricates and selects cleaning program at the touch of a button - so your shaver feels like new every day. For more information about the rest of the Series 5 range, please consult the Series 5 Model overview.

Why would I need a Clean&Charge Station when I can clean my Series 5 shaver under tap water?
Our tests show that cleaning your shaver with a Clean&Charge Station is significantly more hygienic than cleaning it under the tap. It's also more convenient: at the touch of a button your shaver is cleaned, charged and lubricated automatically.

I already have a Cleaning Center from my previous Braun shaver (Syncro, Activator, 360, etc.). Can I use it with the new Series 5 shaver?
No, the Series 5 marks the introduction of a new generation of shavers with fully revamped technology and can’t be used with previous Cleaning Centers.

Can I buy a solo shaver and upgrade with a Clean&Charge Station later?
No, shaver and Clean&Charge Station are designed to interlink during the cleaning procedure. Shavers being sold without the Clean&Charge Station, don’t have the technology to connect accordingly.

How often do I need to exchange the Clean&Charge refill cartridge?
If you clean your shaver with the Clean&Charge Station twice a week, you will only need to replace the refill cartridge every 2 to 3 months to experience a shaver like new, every day. The Save & Subscribe option from Amazon allows you to subscribe for a regular home delivery and at the same time save 10% on the price of the Clean&Charge refill. You don't have to think about it and always have a Clean&Charge refill available when you need it.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. After a few days without shaving, for example over a weekend, you should trim your stubble before you shave. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at right angles (90°) to your skin. In difficult to shave areas like under the nose you can also use the MultiHeadLock switch to lock the shaver head and manually set one of five available shaver head angles as it suits best to your needs. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 5 features an integrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, the Series 5 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting batteries available for Braun shavers.

Shaver failed within warranty period

Life with my new Braun 5030s started well in October 2013. I have problem skin and had been trying to wet shave a for a couple of years. I returned to buy what I hoped was a high quality Braun, made in Germany. Initially impressive features included the overall design and the battery life which was the best I had encountered in such a product.Poor features included the switch to lock the head which is awkward and stiff to operate. The instructions are somewhat generic and apply to the whole range of models, some of which include a self-cleaning device. It is a little unclear how best to clean the product. I would have thought that completely covering the device with water would have been less than ideal but no instructions are given to just clean the foil area. I'm not sure if this product can be used in the shower for example. The shave i receive is acceptable but not amazingly close. I use King of Shaves silicon lubricant to improve matters but without this the shave is less close and takes much longer. My main issue with this shaver surfaced a few days ago when it started beeping continuously and behaving erraticly. I am returning it within the warranty period as either the rechargeable battery has failed or the circuit board has developed a fault. The problem arises as to how I shave if the shaver must be returned. I have no other electric shavers and wet shaving gives me serious skin problems. I am not encouraged to buy another Braun as my confidence is somewhat low as things stand!

No, I do not recommend this product.

I'm converted

After using a wet razor for years I was quiet hesitant in using this electric shaver but boy I'm I glad I gave it a go. I've not looked back since. It's a good sturdy make with a good rubber grip. Letting the pivot head do all the work is effortless as it finds all the stray little hairs leaving my face lovely and smooth and most importantly with out the skin irritation of razor blades.I've already brought my 16yr old son the same one for his birthday in a few weeks. My brother in law has also purchased one on my recommendation and he is extremely pleased with his purchase.Thank you Braun for converting me to a electric razor [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Braun Series 5 Shaver

I've never got on with electric shavers, preferring to stick with a wet shave. I have been using the Braun Series 5 Electric Shaver for several weeks.I have sensitive skin and can only do a wet shave every 2-3 days, with the Braun shaver I can use it everyday. The time it takes is so quick. Most definitely one if the best shaving products I have used. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Long life shaver

After receiving the shaver and using it once a day for the last three weeks rather amazingly its still on its first charge. I'm quite amazed at that. But still on to the actual shaver. The main thing really is, does it do a good job? well from normally wet shaving the answer is yes, if you bought and used this braun series 5 you wouldn't be dissapointed. It cuts pretty close, deals with slightly longer hairs with no great pulling feel and you get very little 5 o'clock shadow. The trimmer is good for small area's but if your removing a full beard then i wouldn't bother, it is just a trimmer. The adjustable head works well keeping the cutting edge at the correct angle. It feels like a well made shaver, not to heavy but nice and solid in your hand with a nice grip so yo dont feel like your going to drop it.Could i recommend this to other people? Well the answer is yes to put it simply.Would i have bought this one? Well i might have gone for the wet/dry version coming from more of a wet shave background but i am in no way dissapointed by this one.Would i buy it for someone else? Maybe, they are quite expensive but it certainly feels like it would last a long time.To sum up -Positives, long life on one charge, decent cut, feels nice and sturdy, looks good.Negatives? The instruction manual seems to cover the entire range leaving you a bit confused as to what your shaver will or wont do. Being someone who likes to grow a full beard every now and again i would have preferred a bigger trimmer but i can manage without it as it would have upset the overall design. Great Electric Shaver with good features

The Braun Series 5 is a great Electric Shaver with good features. When I 1st opened the box I was impressed by the styling and the feel of the shaver. It looks well made and expensive and feels very robust. The shaver is very easy to use and glides across the face cutting to an adequate level. I do suffer with very sensitive skin on my neck and unfortunately I still did by using the Braun Series 5. Would I buy one? Maybe not... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

shaving blues

The Braun Series 5 is a great Electric Shaver with good features. Pro's for me;1.overall look and smooth grip. 2.Child lock for safety.3.removeable top for cleaning.4.facility to style sideburns.5.Comes with shave bag.Cons for me;1.unable to create stubble (remmington Istubble)which I currently use.2. Pulls on longer hairs so best to use every day or other day.3. Takes longer to shave than my Istubble and have to push on a lot harder to make sure clean shave.4. The side burn razor is not very sharp and does not leave a clear cut line.Over all it is a good quality shaver. It's not for me as I prefer to leave stubble rather than a clean shave but would recommend. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

A good daily run around!!

I have used a couple of dry (electric) razors in the past, and I have to say the Braun is the best one I have used so far. The problem I have is that I want wet (Razor blade and foam) razor performance from a dry razor, and unfortunately I just don't get it. Saying that though, the Braun gets a good enough shave for day to day use, but if I have an important meeting or am meeting clients I will probably revert back to the wet razor. So the product itself comes in a standard box with odds and sods, charger, brush, manual etc nothing out of the ordinary. The manual is not the easiest to read, having all the variants of the range in it and knowing which part applies to your product isn't as simple as it should be, but not impossible. The plug is set up for a shaving socket so if you don't have one of these in your home, you'll need to grab an adaptor. I popped it on charge overnight and in the morning it was ready to go.I'm no Grizzly Adams and on the first shave I had about 2 days growth, not a whole lot, but enough to make it worthwhile. I took my time and got some good if not great results down the cheeks and chin, almost wet razor standard, my issues arose trying to get the neck and lower jaw line. I tried lots of different methods, pulling the skin tight, going with the grain, going against the grain, and randomly mashing my face with the razor. it did some of the hair but I was left with a few tufts which bothered me throughout the rest of my day. And this was the trend throughout my trial period, good quick results down my cheeks and chin, a lot of effort for moderate performance for my neck. Maybe that's just my face, and I have to say the other dry razors I have used did not perform half as well as the Braun did. Will I continue to use the Braun? yes. I like the ability to have a quick run over my face before work without having to do the whole wet razor thing. If I have something important coming up I will be more inclined to wet shave.Would I recommend this product? Yes. for those that use dry razors regularly I think this one is one of the better ones to get hold of and I'm sure once you get your technique right you won't be disappointed. Braun series 5 new shaver, new experience, smooth chin!

Its been many years since I've had an electric shaver and the opportunity to try the new Braun was one I didn't want to turn down. The Braun name pulled me in and the product has kept me there! It feels good in your hand, light enough so its not a problem but robust enough so it feels sturdy for the job. The flexMotion Tec keeps the cut on the hard to get at places, under the chin and over the throat, no soreness, good precision and most of all a close shave. The convenience of this device has been a huge positive, easy to store, easy to use and charge, which incidentally it holds for a week of shaving. It is also very easy to clean which was one of my problems with shavers in the past but it can be wet cleaned and as a result feels more hygienic than others. The trimmer is easy to use and is kept well out of the way when not in use.Overall, this shaver is tip top leaving a smooth convenient shave without soreness or irritation, easy to use and maintain, well worth a buy and a must on the list for Christmas and birthdays for most men!
